Anambra State is home to Onitsha Main Market, the largest market in West Africa. In the past, the old Anambra State heavily relied on this market for the revenue that sustained the state. Additionally, there are numerous smaller markets spread across the 21 Local Government Areas, all contributing to the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
The registration and renewal of business premises are crucial for increasing the IGR of the state. This was highlighted today on “Anambra Tax Matters,” an educational program sponsored by the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service and broadcast on Anambra Broadcasting Service, 88.5 FM radio.
The Executive Director in charge of Assessments at Anambra State Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Benjamin Anierobi Okafor who is a guest on the program, discussed the importance of business premises registration and renewal in Anambra State. He explained to listeners the need for traders to promptly pay for the registration and annual renewal of their business premises. By doing so, the state government can generate more funds, which will be used for the development of the state.
Mr. Okafor emphasized that timely registration and renewal of business premises is a vital step for traders to contribute to the growth and improvement of Anambra State’s infrastructure and services.
