Color, rhythm, and pride filled the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, Awka South LGA as Anambra NYSC 2026 Cultural Carnival Promotes Unity.
The event was a celebration of Nigeria’s rich diversity. From traditional dances to symbolic displays, Corps Members represented different ethnic groups in inter-platoon competitions that turned the camp into a mini-Nigeria.
Dressed in vibrant cultural attire, the Corps Members showcased the beauty of unity in diversity — singing, dancing, and competing to see whose heritage shone brightest.
Govt Throws Weight Behind Cultural Identity
Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, described the carnival as a powerful tool for promoting national unity.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr. Patrick Aghamba, the Governor urged youths to take ownership of their culture and traditions.
He noted that youth development remains a priority under his administration, citing the “One Youth, Two Skills” programme which has empowered over 13,000 youths, including Corps Members.
The Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Barr. Amedu Udoji, also called for the sustainability of the initiative. He said culture, creativity and hardwork are the roots of societal values, and urged Corps Members to stay connected to their identity.
Our Differences Are Our Greatest Assets
In her address, the State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Pauline Ojisua, said the carnival was organized to promote oneness.
“Today’s carnival is a vivid demonstration that our differences are not weaknesses, but our greatest assets. When we come together to share our heritage, we build a stronger, more united Nigeria,” she said.
“Corps Members are proving that the youth of Nigeria are not only capable of selfless service but are also proud custodians of our rich cultural heritage.”
The Chairman of the Carnival Committee, Augustine Ogiator, said the cultural carnival will continue to promote national integration.
“The carnival is the highest expression of unity in diversity, one of the core values the NYSC strives to build in every corps member across the nation. Today’s celebration stands as living proof of Nigeria’s beauty found in every tribe.”
The event, attended by traditional rulers, government officials and community leaders, also featured thrilling displays by Man O’ War, including the lively “Filling the Can” contest.
At the end of the competition, Platoon 9 emerged best in cultural presentation, Platoon 4 won best decoration, while Platoon 10 clinched the “Filling the Can” contest. Indeed, Anambra NYSC 2026 Cultural Carnival Promotes Unity!

I love this.
In a country where we often focus on what divides us — tribe, language, religion — seeing NYSC Corps Members celebrate those same differences is refreshing.
This carnival at Umuawulu/Mbaukwu wasn’t just about dance and costume. It was about reminding young Nigerians that our diversity is not a problem to solve. It’s our strength.
When a Corps Member from Sokoto can dance Igbo, and one from Bayelsa can wear Hausa attire and everyone is cheering, that’s nation building in real time.
Kudos to Governor Soludo’s administration and the NYSC Anambra for prioritizing this. If we do more of this in schools, camps, and communities, “One Nigeria” will stop being just a slogan.
To Platoon 9, 4 and 10 — congratulations. But really, every Corps Member who showed up won. Because culture won.
