The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the final phase of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) open on May 11 and ends on July 10, 2026. According to the commission, this will be the last opportunity for Nigerians to register before the next general election, as no fresh registration will take place after the exercise closes. The registrati is especially important for citizens who recently turned 18, those who never registered before, and voters who need to update or correct their information.
INEC explained that the exercise will also allow already registered voters to transfer their registration to a new location, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and correct mistakes in names, addresses, or other personal details. Nigerians can begin the process online through the INEC registration portal before completing it physically at designated centres nationwide. The commission also announced that the updated voter register will be displayed publicly from July 23 to July 29, giving citizens the opportunity to verify their information before the final register is released.

For Ndi Anambra, this exercise should not be ignored. Elections are not only about politics; they influence everyday life. The quality of roads, security, education, electricity, healthcare, and economic opportunities often depends on the kind of leaders elected into office. When eligible citizens refuse to register or vote, they surrender their voice and allow others to decide the future on their behalf. Political participation remains one of the strongest ways citizens can influence government decisions and demand accountability from leaders.
Young people in Anambra especially need to take this registration exercise seriously. Many youths actively discuss poor governance, unemployment, insecurity, and economic hardship, yet some fail to participate in elections. Real change cannot happen when citizens stay away from the democratic process. The same applies to women, traders, students, artisans, and professionals across the State. Every vote represents a voice, and every registered voter increases the strength of the people in determining who leads the country.
Ndi Anambra should avoid waiting until the final days of registration before taking action. Previous exercises have shown that late rushes often lead to overcrowding, delays, and frustration at registration centres. Those who have relocated from one area to another should use this opportunity to transfer their voter registration to their current location. Participating in the voter registration exercise is not just a civic duty; it is an investment in the future of Anambra State and Nigeria as a whole.
