President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria has approved the establishment of the National Tax Policy Implementation Committee to drive the implementation of Nigeria’s new tax reforms. The committee, chaired by Joseph Tegbe, a renowned tax expert, will oversee the nationwide implementation of the tax laws, ensuring they’re fair, transparent, and tech-driven.
The NTPIC’s key objectives include stakeholder engagement, public awareness, inter-agency coordination, and revenue mobilization. The committee will conduct nationwide consultations with private sector, professional bodies, and subnational governments to ensure a collaborative approach.
The committee comprises experts from tax administration, finance, law, private sector, and civil society, ensuring a balanced approach to policy execution. Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, will oversee the committee’s activities, while Sanyade Okoli serves as Secretary.
This move is part of President Tinubu’s economic transformation agenda, aiming to strengthen public finance management and foster inclusive growth. The establishment of NTPIC demonstrates the government’s commitment to implementing tax reforms that promote economic development and improve the business environment.
The NTPIC is expected to enhance revenue mobilization, minimize leakages, and reinforce accountability in the tax system. The committee’s work will support Nigeria’s economic growth and development by ensuring a more efficient and effective tax system.
