Pregnant Woman Found Hanging on Cashew Tree

A cloud of sorrow and shock has fallen over the people of Idemili North Local Government Area in Anambra State on May 6, 2026, as the lifeless body of a pregnant woman was found hanging from a cashew tree along the Uke–Ideani road.

The discovery, left many residents in tears and disbelief. This disturbing event has prompted public outrage and a desperate cry for justice. It has also drawn the attention of the Anambra State Police Command, with the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc, MNIPS, PhD, describing the act as “a painful reminder of man’s inhumanity to man.”

“This is not just a crime; it is a tragedy,” the Commissioner said. “It is an act of cruelty that cannot be ignored.”

Determined to get to the bottom of the case, CP Orutugu has ordered a full-scale investigation. He has also appealed to traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents of Idemili North and nearby areas to assist with any useful information that could help uncover those behind this wicked act.

According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, officers from the Ogidi Police Division were alerted and quickly mobilized to the scene, where they recovered the woman’s body. The victim, whose identity remains unknown, has been taken to a nearby mortuary while investigations continue. Efforts are now underway to identify her and uncover what truly happened.

In a public statement, SP Ikenga said: “The Commissioner of Police today, May 6, 2025, called on stakeholders and community leaders of Idemili North to provide helpful information to aid in the investigation into the suspected murder of a pregnant woman found hanging on a cashew tree along Uke–Ideani road.”

He added that the police are committed to ensuring justice is served and that no stone will be left unturned in tracking down the perpetrators.

As investigations continue, the people of Anambra are left heartbroken and praying for justice. This woman—whoever she was—deserved to live. She and her unborn child deserved a future.
