A New Chapter for ICAN Awka District Society
In a landmark event for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) Awka District Society, Mr. Francis Toochukwu Ezenwa of the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service has been elected as Chairman. The investiture ceremony, held in Awka, the bustling capital city of Anambra State, Nigeria marks the beginning of a new chapter under Mr. Ezenwa’s leadership.
A Distinguished Leader Takes the Helm

Mr. Ezenwa, an Accounting graduate from the University of Benin, succeeds Mr. Emmanuel Muodozie, becoming the 9th Chairman of the Awka District Society. Alongside 13 newly elected executive members, he brings a wealth of experience and dedication to the role. A certified member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, Mr. Ezenwa has attended various management and professional courses, including the Advanced Diploma Program at the Africa Academy for Counter-Fraud and Anti-Corruption Studies (AACAS) and numerous capacity-building programs at institutions such as The Ibadan Business School, Nigeria Governors’ Forum, ICAN, World Bank/EU, and Deloitte School of Tax.

Currently serving as the Head of Back Duty Audit and Investigation at the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Ezenwa has shown remarkable commitment to his work. Speaking with Sylviangige.com, Mr. Ezenwa said he is happily married with children and enjoys leisure activities such as online surfing, motoring, solving conspiracies, watching crime detection series and movies, forensic explorations, and discussing tax-related topics.cc. He also said he detests lazy people.
Commitment to Growth and Excellence
In his inaugural speech, Mr. Ezenwa emphasized his dedication to enhancing the welfare and capacity of District members. He pledged to promote a culture of accounting excellence by sponsoring awards for students excelling in basic financial accounting across selected schools in the state. His vision includes acquiring a district bus, for which a fundraiser was launched with a target of N20 million.

Dr. Greg Ezeilo FCA, ACTI, Chairman of the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service, delivered an inspiring keynote address titled “Accountants in the New World Order: Using Professional Skills to Save the World.” This speech set the tone for the event, highlighting the significant role of accountants in today’s evolving landscape.

Reflections and Hopes for the Future
In his welcome remarks, Sir Obi Okechukwu, Chairman of the occasion, celebrated the association’s ongoing success and expressed hope for a prosperous tenure under Mr. Ezenwa’s leadership. He encouraged the new chairman to build on the solid foundation laid by his predecessors. The immediate past Chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Muodozie, in his valedictory speech, expressed gratitude for the support he received and urged members to extend the same support to Mr. Ezenwa and his team.
