Four lives lost on Orumba North–Awka South road. Govt vows justice as women bear the weight of road violence.

The Anambra State Government has strongly condemned the deadly attack on the convoy of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s Chief of Staff. The incident occurred between 8:00pm and 9:00pm on Saturday, May 31, 2026, at the boundary between Orumba North nd Awka South Local Government Areas. According to the official press statement, the attack cut short the lives of four people and left several others traumatized.
But this was not just an attack on a government official or his security team. It was an attack on every citizen who believes Anambra deserves to live and move freely without fear.
“This was more than an attack on one person it was an attack on the peace security, and democratic order of our State. It was an assault on the progress we have collectively made as a people.” — Dr. Law Mefor, Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation and Value Reformation
Four people lost their lives that night. Four families in Anambra are now preparing burial arrangements instead of sharing Sunday meals. Four homes are now quieter. The State government has extended its condolences to the bereaved families, stating that the victims “deserve justice” and that their deaths will not be in vain.
At http://Sylviangige.com, we understand what this loss means beyond the headlines. We know what it means for women. It means mothers lying awake, waiting for sons who will never return. It means wives receiving the kind of phone call no one ever wants. It means daughters and sisters asking painful questions: Why our roads? Why must we live in fear? Why does violence keep interrupting our lives?
Dr. Law Mefor confirmed that the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies have launched a full manhunt for the attackers. He assured residents that the government will not allow this single incident to erase more than a year of relative peace and improved security across the State. Anambra, he said, will not slide backward.
The government is urging residents to remain calm, go about their lawful businesses, and volunteer any useful information that can help security agencies track down those responsible.
Why This Matters to Women
When convoys are attacked, the pain spreads far beyond government circles. It is the petty trader who leaves home before dawn to catch market in Awka. It is the nurse on night duty rushing to the hospital. It is the student returning late from classes. It is the mother traveling with her children to visit family.
For women, mobility is survival. Roads are not just tar and asphalt. They are pathways to income, healthcare, education, and connection. Every attack on a highway is an attack on women’s ability to earn, to care, and to live freely. Road safety is women’s safety. Peace is women’s business.
As Anambra mourns the four lives lost, http://Sylviangige.com joins the call for swift justice and stronger protection for all road users. To every woman traveling through Orumba North, Awka South, and every other part of the State: your safety matters. Stay alert. Speak up when you see something suspicious. Share credible information with security agencies.
Anambra must not go backward!
