An aspirant for the Awka South and North Federal Constituency seat, Chief Azubuike Ekweozor, has reaffirmed his commitment to serving only one term in office if elected into the House of Representatives.
Ekweozor described the decision as non-negotiable, insisting that four years would be sufficient to implement his campaign promises and deliver meaningful development to the constituency before pursuing higher political ambitions.
The APGA aspirant made this known in Awka during an engagement with a political advocacy group, Anambra Patriots (AP), ahead of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) primary election scheduled for May 23.
He assured members of the group that his administration would focus on a four-point agenda centred on agriculture, security, low-cost housing, and infrastructural development.
According to him, the agenda was carefully designed after extensive consultations and assessment of the needs of the constituency.
“I mean it when I say one term because I have taken time to study the needs of my constituency. That informed the development of my four-point agenda,” he said.
Ekweozor appealed to members of Anambra Patriots to support his aspiration, expressing confidence that the proposed agenda would become a reality if given the opportunity to serve.
The aspirant further maintained that he remained the most qualified among contenders for the party’s ticket, noting that his nationwide contacts and experience would help attract greater democratic dividends to grassroots communities.
While commending Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his achievements across key sectors in Anambra State, Ekweozor called on party faithful to rally behind his vision for the constituency.
Earlier, the Convener of Anambra Patriots, Arc. Okey Ezeobi, said the platform was created to give aspiring leaders the opportunity to present their development blueprints in line with the ideals of good governance, accountability, and transparency.
“The essence of Anambra Patriots is to replicate Soludo’s leadership style in every ward, constituency, and local government area across the State. We want to duplicate Soludo everywhere in Anambra, and ensure leaders are held accountable,” Ezeobi stated.
Sylvia’s Take
One Term, One Promise – Is Azubuike Ekweozor onto something? A single-term promise is risky politically, but it signals focus. Voters are tired of vague manifestos and politicians who overstay their relevance. If Ekweozor can back this up with visible delivery in those 4 areas, he sets a template others might follow.
